Gracenote VideoID™ Deliver Rich Data and Cover Art for DVD and Blu-ray

For years consumers have enjoyed the flexibility and control of Gracenote's music recognition technology, standard in virtually all media players. Now, Gracenote's recognition technology is now available for DVD and Blu-ray disc collections courtesy of Gracenote VideoID. VideoID offers device manufacturers and PC application developers a comprehensive solution to enable consumers to more easily navigate disc collections, and learn more about the films, television shows, and other media they enjoy.

How Does It Work?
When consumers place a DVD or Blu-ray disc in their device or application, it is immediately recognized by VideoID. Title, edition, release year, cover art, running time, rating, cast/credits, genre, synopsis, and many other metadata fields are delivered for each title and available to be used throughout your user interface. With VideoID integrated into user-facing applications, the consumer can easily flip through thousands of films via their cover art images, read the synopsis of a film, find out the actors and actresses in it, or link to contextual commerce opportunities. VideoID is capable of identifying discs whether they are in a tray, drive, changer, on a hard drive, on network storage; anywhere you have access to the original disc information files.

Expand the Possibilities for Your Device or Application
VideoID lets movie fans manage their growing video collections. For example, users can sort, categorize, or select a DVD using intuitive parameters such as genre, director, or actor. They can also browse by cover art or personal favorites. Viewers can also access a world of DVD title-related content and commerce via the Internet, which in turn can deliver additional revenue streams and open new content delivery opportunities for third party vendors.

Blu-ray Disc Support
> Integrated recognition and coverage of discs released in the exciting Blu-ray disc format means you can design for the future.

Recognition Enables User and Device Customization including Parental Control
Recognizing the contents of a particular disc, including the sound, language, and video options, allows developers to offer “smart settings” that automatically optimize playback of a disc to a player's capabilities and the consumer's home entertainment system. This recognition technology combined with Gracenote content and MPAA rating data lets developers add parental controls easily in order to let consumers restrict access to content they find inappropriate for children.

Gracenote Global Media Database
The Gracenote Global Media Database for Video is fast becoming the largest and most comprehensive database of film and television information ever assembled. In an exclusive partnership with the British Film Institute, Gracenote is integrating the world's largest film and television archive of more than 800,000 total works into its service. Data from Muze and Stingray will provide the Global Media Database with virtually every DVD, and Blu-ray disc released in the US, UK, and Japan, including cover art, credits, synopsis, reviews, and more. Gracenote in-house editorial expertise is helping to expand these licensed datasets by focusing on highly desired content like Episodic Synopses for TV Series DVDs.
